In actuality, many
signs can be jealous and/or possessive. Most Fixed and Cardinal signs are
especially jealous. Most Mutable signs have the ability to be so in
instances, but are generally more understanding. However, each sign is
possessive in it’s own way.
For instance, Fire signs like Aries and Leo are possessive of their partner’s attention. They crave it, and when feeling slighted in their pride if their partner spends more time with others, they can have big tempers. However, they tend to allow their partner more trust and independence, if only on a longer leash. Sagittarius, being a mutable sign, tends to go with the flow and be less possessive of their lover, as they dislike the behavior toward them, and are typically concerned with matters less trivial to them.
Water signs, such as Cancer and Scorpio are more inwardly jealous or possessive of their partner’s emotions and do not normally share this feeling with their significant other. They can be grieving inside, letting the disdain stew. When this happens, they cling on to their partner harder, and can become more suspicious. Cancer tends to be protective, as Scorpio tends to be more suspicious and demanding. They can benefit from some communication with their lover. Pisces is a mutable sign, and although indecisive, are not generally possessive unless they develop extreme insecurities and tend to be more ignored. This typically manifests, however, into a form of depression and they take it out on themselves instead of outwardly on others, in what some see as playing a martyr role. Pisces simply do not wish to inflect pain on others in any way.
With Earth signs, they are all a bit possessive, least so being Virgo in my own opinion, as Virgos tend to be very giving of themselves toward others. This does not mean that they are not possessive, and can be a top contender in being prone to jealousy. But these Earth signs generally are possessive in a materialistic or physical sense. Not just with their possessions, as they are worldly creatures, but in relationships as well. Taurus, being both a stubbornly fixed sign as well as rooted in the world, may be one of the most possessive. They don’t generally show this, as they stow away most of their emotion. They see their partner as a prize to be kept close by and will refuse to give it away, becoming defensive if someone dares come close. Capricorn is ambitious and goal oriented, cherishing all they have accomplished, so they are not likely to want to lose any of their achievements such as their partner. If they get a hint that their mate may be too casual with another, they can step up and be very outwardly controlling and demanding. This varies from Scorpio’s more cunning or underhanded way of controlling and demanding. Lastly, Virgo is possessive in a caring and protective sense. They are worry warts and although not usually prone to suspicion in their mate’s waywardness, they are uncertain of their partner’s surroundings so will be very protective of them.
Air signs are the least possessive, with Gemini being the lowest. Gemini are mutable signs and love to be out exploring and learning about the world. So they expect loyalty naturally (or naively), as they give it to their love. When a lover becomes possessive or jealous with them, they instantly feel trapped, which is a Gemini’s worst nightmare. However, this sign is changeable and moody, so in bad times, they may exhibit possessiveness as a childish form of jealousy. Libra is not necessarily prone to possessive behavior, but may display a pouting form of such if they feel they have been pushed too far and need to be so in order to sustain equality in the relationship. Generally, however they are not, as possessive behavior causes disorder and Libras strive for peace. Aquarius is a fixed sign, which makes them stubborn, yet they’re also open minded. This paradoxical nature is seen in their possessiveness as well. Their possessive behavior is more hypocritical in nature, if presented at all. They can be projecting their own insecurities (or own affairs by being duplicitously accusatory in some cases) but still expect their mate to not be possessive or jealous toward themselves as this drags their airy nature down.
Also note that sun signs may not be the only factor in consideration, but this can act as a guide if your Venus or Mars is seen in one of the above signs, as sun signs can play very little in the intimacy or specifics of relationships with others, but Venus describes our attitudes toward and how we react in love as well as Mars playing a role in our aggression and temperament.
